Sept. 1, 2013- Singer-songwriter, Mags (otherwise known as Maggie Wang) from Elmira, has just been announced today as a finalist in the prestigious international John Lennon Songwriting Contest. At eighteen years of age, she is one of the youngest to ever receive this honor. Her song, "Lead Me to the River " is an autobiographical look at this artist's real-life issues with depression and how her faith drew her out of her struggles. "I can't express how incredible this is," relates Mags. "I hope this song can help others, especially teens, to persevere against feelings that cause them to despair."
Mags first got started in music by being a finalist in Faith FM's Shining Star competition at age 14 and winning Wellesley Idol the following year. In 2011, she received a nomination for a Canadian Gospel Music Association Covenant Award for her jazz "Dreaming of Christmas" album. On August 6, 2013, her debut pop CD, "Missmatched " was released nation-wide to Christian retailers and her first single "Knock " peaked at no. 7 on the Canadian Christian charts. She has been a nominee for the Bell Emerging Artists Initiative.
