Written by Joe Beal and Jim Boothe.
A much recorded Christmas song, which first charted (#6) courtesy of Bobby Helms in 1957.
In 1961, Chubby and Bobby combined for an innovative album, which featured Chubby singing Bobby’s songs (such as “Volare”) and vice versa. They were three duets, including “Jingle Bell Rock”, which was released on 45 in December. Cameo used the same picture for the 45 as was on the album cover; there was no attempt to make it festive looking.
Nonetheless the disc charted at #21; no doubt receiving some buyer attention from Chubby returning “The Twist” to the top of the charts for the second time. “The Twist” was #3 on the Billboard Hot-100 over Christmas, 1961.
“Jingle Bell Rock” was not released in the UK until the following year, when it charted at #40. The US flipside of “Jingle Bell Rock Imitations” gave way to “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve” on the UK release; both tracks were on their joint LP.
